Ready to Design? Here’s How to Get Started.

Make sure you meet these system requirements:

  • Windows operating system.
  • Screen Resolution: 1024x768 resolution.
  • The deck designer requires Java 1.5 or higher. If a suitable version is not already installed on your computer, launching the designer will install it for you. If it does not automatically install, you may download it yourself here.
  • Cookies enabled. (How do I do this?)
  • Javascript enabled. (How do I do this?)
  • A two-button mouse is required. We HIGHLY recommend the mouse have a scroll wheel as well.
  • If prompted, you must allow the ActiveX component to run.
  • When prompted, "The application's digital signature has been verified. Do you want to run the application?", published by DIY Technologies, you must accept by clicking "Run".
  • Adobe Reader 5.0 or higher is required to be able to open and view the finished design. The latest version of Adobe Reader can be downloaded here.

Gather your specs

For best results, have the approximate shape and dimensions of your desired deck handy. Your completed design includes a materials and cut list. Using precise dimensions will improve the accuracy of these lists. For planning purposes, the tool’s default design and code specifications are:

  • Post On Concrete
  • 40 PSF Live Load for Deck and Stairs
  • 36" Footer Depth
  • 10 PSF Static Load for Deck and Stairs
