SKOKIE, IL—The North American Deck and Railing Association (NADRA) recently heldits sixth annual National Deck Competition in Baltimore, Md. This year, Jason “Dr. Decks” Russell was recognized at the awards ceremony held at the Hard Rock Café on Thursday, October 6th for an outstanding project featuring AZEK® Deck. The Milton, Wash. deck won first place in the Best Alternative Deck category and third place for the Best Overall Deck.
Russell’s company, Dr. Decks, has been building custom outdoor living, award-winning environments in Washington for the past 25 years. He specializes in heat modification of PVC decking and railing, frequently using AZEK Building Products to complete his projects.
“When I’m designing a deck or talking about concepts and ideas, my customers can see the passion I have for what I do,” said Russell. “The fact that I am able to come up with outside the box designs and have fun updating peoples’ backyards every day has been extremely fun.”
When Russell was originally introduced to the Milton, Wash. project, there was an existing wood, square deck that was not conducive to the homeowner’s yard. Taking inspiration from their portable, stainless steel pizza oven with a domed lid, Russell began creating a unique outdoor living space that showcases a curved deck featuring AZEK’s Vintage Collection in Cypress with Dark Hickory trim.
“I used AZEK’s app to create a virtual version of the round deck design that allowed me to show the homeowners a 3D rendition of my idea,” said Russell. “The app is great because clients can see my vision before I even begin building. They have to have an imagination and let me experiment so that I am able to design the deck of their dreams.”
Russell frequently works with AZEK because the products offer homeowners many benefits, including resistance to scratches, fading, stains, mold, mildew, harsh weather and moisture.
“Our goal at AZEK for more than three decades has been to provide customers with high quality and low-maintenance decking that is engineered to last beautifully,” said Julia Fitzgerald, chief marketing officer at AZEK. “These products were developed to uphold the highest standards of durability while offering industry-best 30-year warranties that give homeowners the peace of mind they deserve.”
AZEK Building Products manufactures home building materials under two divisions: TimberTech® and AZEK Exteriors®. TimberTech offers a premium portfolio of capped polymer and capped composite decking – as well as railing, porch, lighting and paver products – while AZEK Exteriors manufactures distinctly unique trim and moulding. Together the brands present homeowners, builders, architects, dealers and contractors with a comprehensive suite of first-rate products that are long lasting, sustainable alternatives to wood. AZEK is headquartered in Chicago, IL (with plants in OH and PA) and also owns Minneapolis-based Ultralox railing systems.
