WILMINGTON, OH— For homeowners who feel confined or restricted by a small yard or outdoor space, Bernie Malin, owner of Malin Custom Home Remodeling says you can still go big on style with the right materials and amenities.  Malin recently had a client who wanted a new deck but was restricted by how large it could be built. “Using TimberTech’s Legacy capped composite and beautiful deck lighting, we designed a very stylish outdoor living area,” said Malin.

The homeowner, Harry Feinberg of Belmont, MA, knew that he wanted a composite material over pressure treated wood for the new deck.  According to Feinberg, “I’ve had decks made out of pressure-treated wood and I didn’t like the maintenance. With the upkeep required by a home, why add a deck to the maintenance mix?”

Feinberg wanted to bring elegance to the backyard living area and create a smooth transition from the interior of the home to the outdoors. By installing an 11×11 ft. TimberTech Legacy Deck, Malin transformed the small space into an inviting retreat for backyard barbecues and evening entertaining.  He also installed AZEK Premier Railings with post cap lighting, which allows the homeowners to enjoy the outdoors into the evening.  Malin said the LED lighting installed very easily with the AZEK Premier Rail, and creates a warm, subtle glow.

“We were determined to liven up and personalize our outdoor living area,” said Feinberg.  “Our new deck enables us to maximize the small space with an attractive deck that we can enjoy after the sun goes down.”

TimberTech’s Legacy Collection is a low-maintenance, capped composite that brings the look of interior flooring to the outdoors. It is available in three colors—Pecan, Mocha, and Tigerwood.

Capped with an added protective layer surrounding each board, it is backed by a 25-year stain and fade warranty.

Feinberg chose Tigerwood for the deck with a Mocha border. Tigerwood blends light and dark shades for an interior flooring look, while Mocha is a deep, rich walnut color.  “Tigerwood has the similar appearance of a hardwood, creating a seamless transition from the kitchen flooring to the outdoor deck,” he said.

Big or small, day or evening, a deck can create privacy and outdoor enjoyment.  “We view the deck as an outdoor extension of our home,” added Feinberg.  “At the end of a work day, it provides a nice quiet refuge.”
