SCRANTON, PA—The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has added an entirely new dimension to entertaining by transforming its unused flat roof space into a rooftop patio using revolutionary AZEK Pavers. The museum illustrates Nova Scotia’s rich maritime heritage and, with spectacular views of the Halifax waterfront, is a popular destination for weddings, business meetings and receptions. Now, guests can enjoy these experiences outdoors with scenic views!

AZEK Pavers, from AZEK Building Products and made with up to 95% recycled tires and plastics, offers a Resurfacing Paver that is perfect for rooftops, balconies, worn out decks or cracked patios. In five natural colors and three styles, Standard and Permeable in addition to Resurfacing, AZEK Pavers are stain-, scratch- and impact-resistant.

The Museum’s 4,000 sq. ft. rooftop concrete pavers were crumbling from years of rough weather and salty sea air, a problem solved by AZEK Pavers’ resistance to freeze/thaw cracking, salt and harsh climates. But before installing AZEK Pavers, Matt Canning, Project Manager for Gaudet Builders of Halifax, and his crew had to remove all of the damaged concrete from the roof.

“That was the most difficult job, it was a lot of heavy material to clear out,” said Canning. “Afterward, the crew appreciated the lighter weight of the AZEK Pavers which were much easier to transport to the rooftop.” At less than half the weight of traditional pavers, AZEK Pavers install up to three times faster.

Canning affirmed AZEK Pavers’ ease of installation, which saved substantial time and labor. The herringbone design used three different colors and the patented grid system eliminated the difficulty of setting and aligning concrete pavers. And, AZEK Pavers require no special tools, wet saws, labor-intensive pedestal systems or fasteners. For needed repairs or upgrades, they allow easy access to the roof underneath.

Ian Mullan, Events Coordinator at the Museum, said he is pleased with the new AZEK Pavers and looks forward to having this additional space. “I think the rooftop patio will be a popular space for outdoor events,” said Mullan. “We’ll bring the inside party, wedding or meeting outdoors where guests can enjoy the fresh air and impressive harbor views.”
