SCRANTON, PA—When is a pavilion not just a pavilion? That would be one that’s been built by Nathan Denson, owner of By the Book Builders of Voluntown, CT. Denson has the passion and vision to take an ordinary pavilion project and make it extraordinary. For one recent project, Denson created the ultimate in craftsmanship with an AZEK-trimmed pavilion for a homeowner seeking to take home entertainment to a whole new level. Located in Ledyard, CT, the pavilion used AZEK Trim material throughout to capture the old world New England charm—but comes with many high tech amenities that are anything but quaint.
“By using AZEK Trim, we were able to fabricate mouldings and gutters to create a masterpiece pavilion,” said Denson. “The AZEK material is not only easy to work with, but will endure many tough Connecticut winters and all types of weather, with low-maintenance for the homeowner.”
Some of the pavilion’s special features include dramatic lighting that sets the stage for nighttime entertainment, while ceiling fans keep things cool during the long summer evenings. Denson also used AZEK crown moulding to fabricate custom copper-lined Yankee Gutters into both eaves, which are subtle, functional and a beautiful feature of this pavilion. As a finishing touch, he used AZEK Trim to wrap columns and trim the soffits, as well as AZEK Beadboard to finish off the ceiling.
The pavilion is also discreetly wired for sound with an iPhone adaptable input and ceiling- mounted speakers. The independent input was custom made by Denson’s electrician using an iPod cable and solid cover plate. The speakers were cleanly jig-sawed into the AZEK Beadboard ceiling with no splits or nicks. “The clean cuts and miters we can achieve with the AZEK material are essential for creating custom amenities like this,” he said.
Denson utilized several AZEK Moulding profiles as well such as Bed Mould under the soffits topped with 5” Crown, and Band Moulding on all the column’s base panels. “Every inch of the pavilion is AZEK Trim,” he said. “It really allowed creativity and craftsmanship with a material that won’t rot or deteriorate — so I know I’m creating projects that will stand the test of time.”
