How do I Clean my Capped Wood Composite Deck?

Periodic Cleaning

Capped Wood Composite decking is low-maintenance – not to be confused with "no maintenance" – like any product exposed to the outdoor elements, it should be cleaned. We recommend periodic cleaning to help maintain the beauty of your deck. Using warm water and mild dishwashing detergent is usually a good way to clean small areas. For general periodic maintenance cleaning, use a dilution of mild liquid soap and water. Dawn Ultra® has shown best results. For more difficult to remove dirt, mud, clay, or surface contamination, use an all-purpose cleaner like Chomp® Pro Gutter Cleaner or Zep® Fast 505. Clean small, manageable areas to prevent cleaners from drying on the deck surface. All cleanings should be followed by a thorough rinse; residual cleaner left on the deck surface can result in a difficult to remove surface film. Be sure to use as directed by the manufacturer.  For more information, please reference our Care and Cleaning section.

Power Washing

A power washer can also be used when cleaning a TimberTech deck. The recommended PSI settings are different for wood plastic composite decking, capped wood plastic composite decking, and capped polymer (PVC) decking such as AZEK, so be sure to view the deck care and cleaning page on our website and adjust the pressure based on the manufacturer’s instructions. Always take the proper safety precautions when operating a power washer, and use as directed by the manufacturer.
