How Far Apart Should You Put Deck Floor Joists?

Decking Installation & Maintenance

The space setting for deck floor joists all depends on the type of TimberTech decking you choose. TimberTech Legacy, Tropical, Terrain, and Reliaboard collections are going to require 16" on center for 90-degree applications and 12" on center for 45-degree applications. However, our Docksider and TwinFinish decking have different spans for specific application needs. TimberTech DockSider will span 24" on center and TimberTech TwinFinish will span 20" on center for a 90-degree application. Both will be 16" on center for a 45-degree application. For more information, please reference our install guide.

Since TimberTech offers plank profiles to suit most common joist spans, it’s a great opportunity for homeowners to pursue a replank of their current decking. A replank is when you utilize your existing under frame. As long as the structure is still up to code it can be a more economical way to refresh your outdoor living space.
