What defines the Prime Collection?

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best fasteners to use with the Prime Collection®?

The best fastener depends on your board profile and the finished look you want. The Prime Collection® works with several TimberTech fastener systems:

CONCEALoc® for grooved boards when you want a hidden-fastener finish

EDGELoc® designed for grooved boards in the Prime+, Prime, and Premier Collections, using collated clips with pre-set stainless steel screws for a consistent gap

CORTEX® for Composite Decking for a top-down install with color-matched plugs

TOPLoc® for Composite for color-matched, top-down face fastening

CORTEX® plugs are available in matching composite colors, including Dark Teak, for a near-seamless surface.

What is the maximum joist spacing for the Prime Collection®?

For the Prime Collection®, follow the joist spacing outlined in the current TimberTech installation guide for your specific profile and application. Proper spacing keeps your deck flat, secure, and warranty-eligible, so it's worth confirming the exact requirement before you build.

Standard Prime boards: Confirm on-center spacing in the installation guide.

Stairs, diagonal layouts, and commercial applications typically require tighter spacing.

What colors are widely available? Are there local exclusions?

The Prime Collection® offers two signature colors, each with a painted, opaque wood look and a subtle straight grain:

Dark Teak™

Maritime Gray™

These earthy, vivid tones give you a clean, stained-wood aesthetic on a lightweight scalloped board. As with any decking, local inventory can vary by profile, length, and distributor demand. For exact regional availability and lead times, check with a local TimberTech dealerbefore finalizing your build.

Which railing collections are compatible with the Prime Collection®?

The Prime Collection® pairs with every TimberTech Railing system, giving you flexibility across style and budget. Compatible collections include:

Impression Rail Express®

Classic Composite Series

Advantage Rail™

Pinnacle Rail®

Statement Rail™

Reliance Rail™

Fulton Rail®

The Classic Composite Series and Impression Rail Express® are especially popular pairings.

Can the Prime Collection® be used near water? near salt water?

Yes, with the right expectations. The Prime Collection® features a three-sided polymer cap with zero wood fibers, giving it excellent moisture resistance. That makes it a dependable choice near lakefronts, pools, and other wet areas.

For dedicated dock applications, TimberTech recommends its Advanced PVC lines over Composite.

Is the Prime Collection® fire resistant? Is it compliant for fire zones?

The Prime Collection® is a durable composite, but it isn't one of TimberTech's fire-zone decking options. Prime carries a Class C Flame Spread rating and does not hold an Ignition Resistant designation or WUI compliance.

If you're building in a wildfire-prone area, look to TimberTech's fire-resistant lineup instead:

Vintage and Landmark Collections (Advanced PVC): Ignition Resistant, Class A Flame Spread Rating, WUI Compliant

Harvest+ Collection (Advanced PVC): Class A Flame Spread Rating, WUI Compliant

Harvest Collection (Advanced PVC): Class B Flame Spread Rating, WUI Compliant

Are there any real woods that compare to the finish and color of the Prime Collection® boards?

The Prime Collection® delivers a painted, opaque stained wood look with a subtle straight grain, the kind of clean, uniform finish you'd get from a freshly stained board. Rather than mimicking the natural variation of raw timber, Prime gives you that consistent, painted hardwood aesthetic in earthy, vivid tones.

Its scalloped boards come in two versatile colors:

Dark Teak™ → deep, rich brown wood stain

Maritime Gray™ → cool, weathered gray

Is the Prime Collection® capped or uncapped? On how many sides?
The Prime Collection® is a three-sided capped composite decking product. It features a proprietary polymer cap made with zero wood fibers for excellent moisture resistance.
Can the Prime Collection® be used for non-deck applications? (i.e., docks, porch, cladding)

The Prime Collection® is built specifically as composite decking, so it isn't offered in dedicated porch or cladding formats. Those tongue-and-groove porch and cladding options come from the TimberTech Advanced PVC lines, like the Vintage and Landmark Collections.

For finishing touches, Prime does offer matching fascia and riser boards, so you can wrap your deck's perimeter and steps for a clean, seamless look.

Docks: Advanced PVC is the recommended choice for dock-style use, not Composite Prime.

Porch: Not available in the porch format.

Cladding: Not available in the cladding format.

What is the difference between the Prime Collection® and Prime+ Collection®?

Both are three-sided capped composite decking with a zero-wood-fiber cap, a scalloped profile, and 25-Year Product and Fade & Stain Limited Warranties. The differences come down to look and color.

Here's how they compare:

Look and finish: Prime+ offers a natural, timeless straight grain with inviting, moderately blended colors; Prime delivers a painted, opaque stained wood look.

Colors: Prime+ comes in Coconut Husk®, Sea Salt Gray, and Dark Cocoa; Prime comes in Dark Teak™ and Maritime Gray™.

Value tier: Prime+ is an upgrade option; Prime is a standard option.

Choose Prime+ for a natural straight grain in warm, inviting tones, or Prime for a clean, painted wood look. Both give you the same dependable cap construction and warranty.

Can FUSIONLoc be used for TimberTech Decking?
TimberTech no longer produces FUSIONLoc Hidden Fasteners, but they are compatible with all of our grooved deck boards.
