Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the Impression Rail Express® Panels 69.43" and 91.31" and not a full 6' and 8'?
The panels are sold as 6-foot and 8-foot Universal Panels, but the actual baluster panel measures slightly shorter than the full nominal length. That's by design.
The ""missing"" length accounts for real-world installation:
- Post width takes up space at each end of the run.
- Brackets and hardware need room to connect the panel to your posts.
- Proper spacing keeps the finished section square and secure.
So when you frame your posts on standard centers, the 6-foot and 8-foot panels drop right into place with the correct gaps.
What is the actual length of Impression Rail Express®?
Impression Rail Express® comes in two panel sizes to fit your layout:
6-foot Universal Panel (15 balusters) at 69.43"" each
8-foot Universal Panel (20 balusters) at 91.31"" each
You can also choose between two rail heights, 36 inches and 42 inches, to match local code and your design. Keep in mind that the 42-inch vertical cable panels are residential only. Post kits come in 36-inch, 42-inch, and 52-inch heights.
Impression Rail Express® works with a range of TimberTech metal rail lighting, so you can add ambiance and improve safety after dark. Compatible options include:

These lights come in finishes like White, Black, and Dark Bronze to blend right in with your railing. The 3" Post Cap Light even installs with any IRX post cap, with no color matching needed.

Yes. Impression Rail Express® is made from durable, non-combustible aluminum, which makes it a smart, low-maintenance choice for waterfront settings like lakefronts and poolside.
For salt-water and coastal projects, a few smart steps go a long way:
- Always check local code requirements for coastal applications
- Use corrosion-resistant hardware suited to salt air and spray
- Keep in mind that the TimberTech Limited Warranty does not cover exposure to corrosive elements
Impression Rail Express® uses a panelized system that makes installation straightforward.

One important note: the top rail is not included with the panel. Stair panels include the baluster panel, bottom rail, and bracket hardware.
