What defines the Terrain Collection?

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best fasteners to use with the Terrain Collection®?

The best fastener depends on your board profile and the finished look you want. Terrain comes in both grooved and square-shouldered profiles, and it works with these TimberTech fastener systems:

CONCEALoc® for grooved boards when you want a hidden-fastener finish

TOPLoc® for Composite for color-matched, top-down face fastening

What is the maximum joist spacing for the Terrain Collection®?

For the Terrain Collection®, follow the joist spacing outlined in the current TimberTech installation guide for your specific profile and application. Proper spacing keeps your deck flat, secure, and warranty-eligible, so it's worth confirming the exact requirement before you build.

Standard Terrain boards: Confirm on-center spacing in the installation guide.

Stairs, diagonal layouts, and commercial applications typically require tighter spacing.

What colors are widely available? Are there local exclusions?

The Terrain Collection® offers two signature colors, each with a rugged cathedral grain and subtle, natural color variation:

Brown Oak

Silver Maple

Both are part of the core Terrain line, available in standard width only, with no regional exclusions noted. As with any decking, local inventory can vary by length and distributor demand. Some colors may stock more readily in certain markets than others. For exact regional availability and lead times, check with a local TimberTech dealer or distributor before finalizing your build.

Which railing collections are compatible with the Terrain Collection®?

The Terrain Collection® pairs with every TimberTech Railing system, giving you flexibility across style and budget. Compatible collections include:

Impression Rail Express® (aluminum, non-combustible)

Classic Composite Series

Advantage Rail™

Pinnacle Rail®

Statement Rail™

Reliance Rail™ (premium vinyl)

Fulton Rail® (steel, non-combustible)

The Classic Composite Series and Impression Rail Express® are especially popular pairings, often shown with Terrain's natural wood tones.

Can the Terrain Collection® be used near water? near salt water?

Yes, with the right expectations. The Terrain Collection® features a four-sided polymer cap with zero wood fibers, giving it strong moisture resistance and protection from mold, mildew, and rot. That makes it a dependable choice near lakefronts, pools, and other wet areas.

For dedicated dock applications, TimberTech recommends its Advanced PVC collections over Composite.

Is the Terrain Collection® fire resistant? Is it compliant for fire zones?

The Terrain Collection® offers a measure of fire resistance, but it isn't TimberTech's top fire-zone choice. Terrain carries a Class C Flame Spread Rating and does not hold an Ignition Resistant designation or WUI compliance.

If you're building in a wildfire-prone area, you have options:

Vintage and Landmark Collections (Advanced PVC): Ignition Resistant, Class A Flame Spread Rating, WUI Compliant

Harvest+ Collection (Advanced PVC): Class A Flame Spread Rating, WUI Compliant

Harvest Collection (Advanced PVC): Class B Flame Spread Rating, WUI Compliant

Are there any real woods that compare to the finish and color of the Terrain Collection® boards?

Yes. The Terrain Collection® captures a timeless, traditional wood look with a rugged cathedral grain and an embossed finish. The subtle color variation and textured surface give you the natural, weathered character of real wood, while a clever embossing helps hide everyday wear and tear.

Rather than copying one species, Terrain evokes familiar, natural wood tones across its two colors:

Brown Oak → warm, classic oak browns

Silver Maple → soft, cool gray wood

Is the Terrain Collection® capped or uncapped? On how many sides?
The Terrain Collection® is a four-sided capped composite decking product. It features a proprietary polymer cap on all four sides, including inside the grooves, made with zero wood fibers. Because the cap contains no wood fibers, there's nothing on the surface to absorb water or break down. It's capped on all four sides for superior moisture resistance and lasting beauty, backed by 30-Year Product and Fade & Stain Limited Warranties.
Can the Terrain Collection® be used for non-deck applications? (ie. docks, porch, cladding)

The Terrain Collection® is built specifically as composite decking, so it isn't offered in dedicated porch or cladding formats. Those tongue-and-groove porch and cladding options come from the TimberTech Advanced PVC lines, like the Vintage and Landmark Collections.

For finishing touches, Terrain does offer matching fascia and riser boards in both colors, so you can wrap your deck's perimeter and steps for a clean, seamless look.

Docks: Advanced PVC is the recommended choice for dock-style use, not composite Terrain.

Porch: Not available in the porch format.

Cladding: Not available in the cladding format.

What is the difference between the Terrain Collection® and Terrain+ Collection®?

Both are four-sided capped composite decking with the same zero-wood-fiber cap, 30-Year Product and Fade & Stain Limited Warranties, and an upgrade value tier. The differences come down to grain, color, fire compliance, and fastener options.

Here's how they compare:

Grain and finish: Terrain has a rugged cathedral grain with an embossed texture; Terrain+ offers a subtle wood grain with a low-gloss matte finish, like sawcut pine.

Colors: Terrain comes in Brown Oak and Silver Maple; Terrain+ comes in Natural White Oak, Weathered Oak, and Dark Oak.

Fire compliance: Terrain has a Class C Flame Spread Rating and is not WUI Compliant; Terrain+ is WUI Compliant.

Fasteners: CORTEX® is not compatible with Terrain, but it is compatible with Terrain+.

Choose Terrain for a rugged, traditional grain in classic tones, or Terrain+ for a subtler grain, updated oak colors, and WUI compliance for fire zones.

Can FUSIONLoc be used for TimberTech Decking?
TimberTech no longer produces FUSIONLoc Hidden Fasteners, but they are compatible with all of our grooved deck boards.
