What touch up paint is recommended for Fulton Rail?

Fulton Rail® comes in a single, clean Black finish on non-combustible steel, so any touch-ups should match that color precisely.

The good news: Steel railing is built to hold its finish for the long haul, so most decks won't need much, if any, touch-up over the years. TimberTech recommends Rust Oleum Flat Black Enamel. Do not use paint in a closed environment. All surfaces should be covered when using spray paint to avoid overspray or damage.

What is the recommended installation of posts to a decking surface?

Fulton Rail® gives you flexible post options to suit how your deck is built. You can choose from 2"x2" and 3"x3" posts in both 36" and 42" heights, including blank, end, line, and corner posts that come with attached brackets, a cap, and a skirt.

For mounting, you have two main paths:

Surface mount: Posts attach to the top of the deck surface.

Fascia mount: Dedicated fascia mount posts (in 2"x2" and 3"x3", 36" and 42") attach to the deck's outer rim for a clean, space-saving look. TimberTech recommends installing Fulton Rail posts using 7/16” through bolts with appropriate washers and nuts as shown in the Fulton Rail installation guide. This will make for a strong attachment to the deck.

Why are the Fulton Rail Panels 69.5” and 93.5” and not a full 6’ and 8’?

The panels are sold as 6-foot and 8-foot Universal Panels, but the actual baluster panel measures slightly shorter than the full nominal length. That's by design.

The "missing" length accounts for real-world installation:

- Post width takes up space at each end of the run

- Brackets and hardware need room to connect the panel to your posts

- Proper spacing keeps the finished section square and secure

So when you frame your posts on standard centers, the 6-foot and 8-foot panels drop right into place with the correct gaps.

Yes. Fulton Rail® is made from durable, non-combustible steel and is durability-enhanced for a long life, which makes it a smart, low-maintenance choice for waterfront settings like lakefronts and pool sides.

For salt-water and coastal projects, a few smart steps go a long way:

- Always check local code requirements for coastal applications

- Use corrosion-resistant hardware suited to salt air and spray

- Keep in mind that the TimberTech Limited Warranty does not cover exposure to corrosive elements.
