Palm Springs, CA | Deck By: Shields Residential

Soleil House was the refurbishing opportunity Trina Turk had been searching for. "I had been looking for a mid-century house in Palm Springs that was in pretty much original condition for a while,” she said. "Even though this house was a real disaster when I saw it, it had really nice bones and an incredible view — that's what really sold me." Partnering with Steven Shields and Shields Residential Construction, Trina found they shared a vision for the architectural preservation, and they agreed that TimberTech was the perfect fit for both the environment and the home. "TimberTech is a fantastic product that is able to meet all these aesthetic desires without the high maintenance requirements of wood,” said Steven, “a match made in heaven."

“I selected TimberTech because it looks like real wood. It blends nicely with the mountainside.”

Dividing her time between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, fashion designer Trina Turk is a Californian to her core. With so much inspiration to be found in the state’s diverse culture, architecture, and landscape, turning her creativity toward home design just made sense — and it’s no surprise her beautifully refurbished Soleil House was featured in 2026 Modernism Week.

"The deck is a really important part of this house because it's fairly large, and it really becomes almost like an outdoor living room,” Trina said. To bring this outdoor living space to life, she chose Weathered Teak® from the Vintage Collection®. Indoor-outdoor connection is an integral part of mid-century modern architecture, so it was important that Trina’s decking complement the terrazzo tile used inside. “There’s a lot of color variation in the tile and in the Weathered Teak color,” she said, “so I felt that they sat very nicely next to each other.”

"I live in Los Angeles and Palm Springs,” Trina shared, “so having experienced the fires a couple years ago, fire resistance is really important.” With an Ignition Resistant designation, a Class A Flame Spread Rating, and WUI compliance, our Vintage Collection was the perfect, fire resistant option. Steven added, "TimberTech has not only technology that goes beyond the standards of fire resistance, but on top of that, it's a beautiful product that performs extremely well.”
