Welcome to Bre Bertolini’s Modern Outdoor Living Space
Youngstown, OH | Deck By: Brepurposed Design
When the creative mind behind Brepurposed Design began imagining a backyard refresh for her family’s Youngstown, Ohio home, her search for low-maintenance and high-style options quickly led her to TimberTech.
Meet Bre
“It looks exactly like real wood and I don’t have to maintain it. Amazing!”
– Bre Bertolini
Self-described “interior decorator, blogger, and lover of all things DIY,” Bre Bertolini is no stranger to home makeovers. The mother of three has been on a journey with her husband, Dan, as they renovate their home — both interior and exterior — to suit their modern tastes and their family’s needs. Their most recent renovation? A gorgeous, sprawling TimberTech deck the whole family can enjoy. Read the full story of her deck project on her blog.
Hear Why Bre Chose TimberTech
Bre knew she wanted an outdoor living space that served as a natural extension to her home’s interior — and required minimal maintenance. Plus, it was important that the deck design also complement her striking home exterior. Then, there was the matter of safety and performance. She wanted to rest easy knowing her kids had a splinter-free, durable, long-lasting space to spend time outdoors.
The answer? TimberTech capped polymer decking in Weathered Teak® paired with the Classic Composite Series Railing with Contemporary Top Rail in Classic Black.
The high-performance decking and railing deliver the quality and peace of mind Bre needed. And the realistic wood grain and color of the boards gave her the look and feel she wanted.
The final result? A contemporary, contrast-rich palette with sun-washed Weathered Teak boards for a warm, inviting foundation and sleek black railing for a distinctive, darker tone that complements her home’s exterior color.
High-style design with low-maintenance performance means Bre can spend her time enjoying her space instead of worrying about maintaining it.
Bre chose Weathered Teak wide-width capped polymer decking from the TimberTech AZEK® Vintage Collection® for its warm, light color and premium hardwood looks that perfectly complemented her interior flooring. The splinter-free, cooler-to-the-touch surface means she doesn’t have to worry about her kids running around barefoot in the summer.
Bre chose wide-width (7.25” wide compared to a standard 5.5” deck board) Weathered Teak boards because the larger profile gave her a cleaner look for her sprawling deck. And the dining table was a must as her family loves to dine alfresco.
This cozy nook area with an indoor living room-inspired design is the perfect spot to relax, reset, and recharge. The comfortable furniture, rug, throw pillows and blankets all create a texture-rich space that is irresistibly inviting.
Just like the inside of her home, the wood furniture with a rich, dark golden tone was chosen to complement the lighter deck board flooring. Choosing outdoor furniture and décor that mirrors her interior design makes the same that much cozier.
It’s the small elements that can transform a deck from an outdoor structure to an inviting destination. The black firepit creates an eye-catching focal point that contrasts nicely with the warm toned deck color palette.
When designing the layout of her deck, Bre wanted something that was functional and made the most of her space. The spacious surface and wide stairs create a smooth transition from home to yard.
