The 2017 Southern Living Idea House on North Carolina’s Bald Head Island highlights some of the hottest design trends of the year. Architect Eric Moser of Moser Design Group and designer Lindsey Coral Harper of LCH Interiors brought creativity and beauty to this incredible home, and we just can’t get enough of it! For now, sit back, relax, and take in top trends that we spotted in this dream space. Then, check out full photos of each room in the Idea Home image gallery.
1. Jewel Tones
Rich hues are all the rage this year, and green is the stand out color among them. Statement-making greens appear everywhere in the Idea House from the living room’s unique ottoman, to the cabinetry in the butler’s pantry, and one of the home’s most interesting spaces: the powder room.
2. Less is More
The classic saying is ringing true this year as designers highlight fewer high-quality pieces rather than many pieces of poorer quality. The mantel décor in the Idea House is a perfect illustration of this design trend.
3. Tropical Print
Go big or go home, right? Bold tropical patterns are definitely in this year. The Idea House living room features tropical print fabric on the couch that inspired the design of the entire room!
4. Bold Bronze
Bronze has been showing up everywhere lately, and adds interest to the layers of design elements in the living room. Bronze windows and doors anchor both sides of the living room.
5. Counter Choice
Granite has been the go-to choice for what feels like eternity, but the beautifully appointed Idea House kitchen features quartz instead. It looks like granite is moving to the back burner, as quartz and quartzite become widespread kitchen favorites.
6. Retro Furniture
Furniture with a retro feel is making a big comeback. Natural woven styles that were popular in the ‘70s such as rattan and wicker-inspired furniture are everywhere this year. The Idea House embraces this trend with relaxed vintage chairs instead of more traditional seating at the dining table. The design thread carries through outside with this natural looking seating throughout much of the home’s 1,300 square feet of outdoor living space.
7. Indoor Standards for Outdoor Spaces
The Idea House’s outdoor living areas have high standards similar to indoor rooms with at least 8- by 8-feet of space to provide ample room for furnishings and air circulation. We love this trend at TimberTech, because we produce high quality materials for outdoor living that require very little maintenance. Actually, this dream home showcases AZEK Deck, Porch, and Rail products that are engineered to last beautifully.
